About the Toy group

The Toy group is made up of small breeds kept mainly as companions, including the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Pug and Yorkshire Terrier. Some were bred down from larger working types; others have been companion dogs for centuries.

Small size brings its own health considerations, from dental and knee problems to breathing difficulties in flat-faced breeds and heart and neurological conditions in some others. Ask a breeder which health tests and screening schemes apply to their breed and see the results for both parents.
