This statement applies to caninebreeder.co.uk, run by [COMPANY NAME]. We want as many people as possible to be able to use the Site, whether you are a breeder publishing a listing or a buyer searching for a puppy.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. WCAG 2.2 became a W3C Recommendation on 5 October 2023 and is the current international standard. Level AA covers the criteria most people rely on, including keyboard access, sufficient colour contrast, visible focus, text that can be resized to 200%, minimum target sizes and consistent help.
The law
In England, Scotland and Wales, the Equality Act 2010 requires service providers to make reasonable adjustments so that disabled people are not put at a substantial disadvantage. In Northern Ireland, equality law is a devolved matter and the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, as amended, continues to apply. We treat both as requiring the same thing of us: a website that disabled people can use, and a willingness to provide information in another way when they cannot.
The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not apply to us because we are a private business, but we have written this statement in the same format so it is familiar.
What we have done
- Built the Site on a responsive theme that works at 320px wide and at 400% zoom without horizontal scrolling.
- Made every control reachable and usable with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
- Used headings, landmarks and labels so screen readers can navigate listings, search filters and forms.
- Kept text and background colours at a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1.
- Provided text alternatives for our own images and icons.
- Avoided time limits on forms, and made error messages specific and linked to the field concerned.
- Provided a “skip to content” link on every page.
- Made the map view optional, with an equivalent list view for every search.
Known problems
We know that parts of the Site are not yet fully accessible:
- Breeder photos: images are uploaded by breeders. We prompt for a description and reject uploads without one, but some older images have generic alternative text.
- Uploaded documents: licence and health test documents supplied by breeders are often scanned PDFs or photographs that are not tagged for screen readers. We can describe the content of any document on request.
- Third-party map: the embedded map has limited keyboard support. The list view provides the same information.
- Video: any videos embedded by breeders may lack captions. We are adding a requirement for captions or a transcript.
- Cookie settings dialogue: focus order in the dialogue is being corrected.
We are working through these and will update this page as each is fixed.

How we tested
We test the Site with automated tools, manual keyboard checks and screen readers (NVDA on Windows, VoiceOver on iOS and macOS) on a sample of page types: home, search results, breeder profile, litter listing, enquiry form, account dashboard and checkout. Our last review was on [DATE]. We repeat the review at least every 12 months and whenever we change the theme or add a new type of page.
