Do I need a licence to advertise puppies?

In England you need a dog breeding licence from your council if you breed three or more litters in 12 months or breed and sell dogs as a business, and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own schemes. Licensed breeders show their licence number and issuing council on every advert. Puppies must be at least eight weeks old before they go to new homes.

Using a Korthals Griffon stud dog

This page lists Korthals Griffon stud dogs offered by UK owners. In a breed with a small UK population, choosing a stud is as much about genetic diversity as about type or working ability. Before you agree a mating, run the pair through the RKC Inbreeding Coefficient (COI) Lookup and aim for a litter at or below the breed average, as the RKC's inbreeding guidance advises. Bear in mind that imported dogs are not automatically unrelated to UK lines. Ask for the stud's BVA/KC hip score and elbow grade and confirm them on the RKC Health Test Results Finder. Both dogs should be RKC registered with no endorsement that would stop the litter being registered. Health tests for a Korthals Griffon stud

The RKC's health guidance for the Korthals Griffon does not name a screening test as Good Practice. Instead, its Good Practice advice for the breed is to prioritise genetic diversity, which matters in a small population built from imported dogs. The RKC's genetic diversity guidance recommends checking the coefficient of inbreeding (COI) of every planned mating, aiming at or below the breed average, and not overusing popular sires. It also warns that imported dogs are not automatically less related. As Best Practice the RKC recommends hip scoring under the BVA/KC Hip Dysplasia Scheme, which scores X-rays of dogs aged one year or over from 0 to 106 (lower is better), and elbow grading under the BVA/KC Elbow Dysplasia Scheme, which grades from 0 (normal) to 3. There is no RKC breed-specific DNA package and there are no additional breed-specific breeding restrictions. The breed club says it knows of no serious health problems in the breed, advises buyers to ask for both parents' hip and elbow results, and recommends that breeders use a K locus coat colour DNA test to identify lines carrying a tan-point pattern the breed does not allow. The breed is in Breed Watch Category 1: no breed-specific points of concern have been flagged for show judges.
