About the Utility group
The Utility group gathers breeds that do not fit the sporting or working groups, many of them originally bred for specific jobs that have since disappeared. It includes the Bulldog, French Bulldog, Dalmatian, Poodles, Shih Tzu, Akita, Schnauzers and Lhasa Apso, so the breeds vary widely in size, coat and temperament.
Because the group is so varied, research the individual breed rather than the group. Several utility breeds are flat-faced, and buyers should ask about breathing and whether the parents have been assessed under a recognised respiratory function scheme where one exists for the breed.
